Newsletter - December 2011
Optimizing the ROI from Technology
Season’s Greetings and welcome to our 2011 Fall Newsletter! Here you will find our holiday schedule and what to do if you have a technical issue over the holiday. As is our custom, also enclosed are articles intended to be useful to you as you navigate the tricky new currents in the business of accounting. The unifying theme of these articles is the ongoing question: how can we use our investment in technology to improve our business practices and our services to our clients?
Holiday Schedule. We will be closed Monday 26 December through Monday 2 January, reopening at 9 am on Tuesday 3 January 2012. We will NOT be checking for telephone messages during this period but we will be monitoring emails to support@cli-usa.com. We will respond as soon as we can, but certainly by the next business day.
Why Technologies Fail. Our lead article is based on the extraordinary work of Dr. Eliyahu Goldratt, an Israeli physicist who is to American manufacturing what Edwards Deming is to Japan. The article applies his principles to the business of accounting and specifically to the adoption of software systems. I think you will find these principles applicable to your own firm and your own experience with investment in technology. Click here for the full article.
The APS Fall 2011 Client Conference. This occured over Thanksgiving, so it cost me dear in red points with my family! Nonetheless it was worthwhile to re-establish my connections with the APS team and to learn more about APS development plans.

The ITA Conference. The core of Information Technology Alliance (ITA) is the CIOs and CTOs of the 30 largest CPA firms after the Big Four. Commercial Logic has been a vendor member of this organization for many years. At the ITA fall conference in Austin recently the conference theme was all about moving computing resources to the cloud (aka Internet) and software as a service (SaaS). SaaS has been around for some time now, but what is new is that even the largest firms are starting to consider it and try it out in new ways. For more information click here.
Resource Planning. Advance Resource Planning (RP) is a new addition to the APS Advance suite that delivers next generation scheduling and resource allocation for professional service firms.
It is designed to improve profitability through resource optimization – helping firms to understand staff capacity and ensure that the right people are working on the right jobs at the right rate. For more information on Resource Planning click here.
We wish you peace and prosperity in the New Year,
